‘Homage to Three Istanbuls’

This artwork, born from the convergence of Istanbul’s poetic beauty with the simple artistic element of line, was conceived as a respite where workers and visitors amidst their daily hustle could encounter a different reality and aesthetic.

‘Homage to Three Istanbuls’

In this project, depth was created using the silhouette-forming line, achieved by laser-cutting and assembling three different colored plexiglass layers. The resulting depth and the appearance and disappearance of superimposed colors with the viewer’s movement, allowing the artwork to vary with motion, enable it to be considered a kinesthetic art object.

It aims to bring a different approach to the dynamics of its space by offering the individual an opportunity to question the changing nature of the sense of reality with space, time, and movement.

‘Sound Wave’

This artwork, which establishes a connection between the aesthetics of colors and forms and the aesthetics of sound, was positioned at the entrance of the conference hall in the main lobby of the building. Visitors passing through and dealing with official procedures naturally create a hum of sound in this large hall. This artwork aims to visualize the distribution of sound in space with forms, expressing this hum in an aesthetic form, and transforming the confusion created by the hum of the space in the viewer’s mind with the artwork. The conference hall is a space that requires focus on sound and speech; the placement of this artwork here will facilitate this focus as individuals encounter the piece when passing through this door.

Dimensions: 2.88 cm x 800X units of varying depth
Material: Colored steel and aluminum
Year of Production: 2015

‘Cosmic Light’ (Moon – Star)

By its very nature, humanity first perceives the world through its own passions, joys, fears, sorrows, needs, and ambitions. Art is among the primary means that enable us to connect with other people and beings with whom we share this universe. We transform into social individuals by understanding, loving, and empathizing with others, and we establish our sense of belonging to society and humanity through shared morality, culture, beliefs, and most importantly, the rule of law. One of the greatest factors creating and preserving this sense of belonging is our connection with historical accumulation. Another aspect we need to make sense of our existence is the space we occupy in the cosmic void and our connection with the sky. Each of these concepts is lengthy in plain narrative and complex in thought. In our daily lives, it is symbols that trigger our perception to connect us with these concepts.

The moon and star in the building’s main lobby is a simple symbolic artwork that, with its symbolic meanings for our society, reminds every individual passing through, regardless of their position, that they are part of a larger structure beyond their individual existence. The moon and star are not only the main theme of the Republic of Turkey’s flag but also contain a wealth of meaning and symbolic information for many cultures that have lived on these lands. On the other hand, it evokes the cosmic void, reminding us of universal unity under the same sky.

The countless small moon and stars within the bright, simple, and plain main body forming the moon and star represent our unity and equality under the grand and inclusive umbrella of justice, despite our differences and distinctions.
